Hello everyone! My name is Rufus Ducote! I am the roaster for FRC! In the grand scheme of things, I am in my infancy of this amazing art form. Imagine several links in a chain. Roasting, is just one of the many links in the chain of coffee. I have come to realize that it is a total collaboration from seed to cup.
How many hands does it take to make a great cup of coffee? TOO MANY TO COUNT!!!!
Let me make a short list to show you the many different influences a single bean, or batch of beans can have.
- Mother Nature- the ultimate hand in providing specific conditions for growing great coffee seeds
- Farmers- the first start to a good cup is a great product. Farmers must do their job in growing the best seed. Quality control starts here.
- Green coffee buyers (importer/exporter)- to have a good product, one must be able to identity it! These individuals spend time importing the best beans from the best farms. How do they know what’s the best? Individuals perform cuppings of the coffee from green coffee to a full roast. They taste it in every stage and profile the coffee.
- Roasters- If you have been to The Warehouse Bakery and Donuts, you have seen me in the FRC processing room Roasting on our Probat L-12. We take the coffee from the importers and come up with our own blends and roast them to a drinkable state. The beans come to us GREEN from all of the world and then we roast them to perfection from light to dark and in between.
Barista- This is the final step in the collaboration. Skilled baristas fine tune these roasted beans into drinkable cups of coffee, espressos, and boutique coffee drinks. They are the last hands that touch the coffee.
so, how many hands does it take to make a great cup of Coffee??????????
When you come in and have a cup of our coffee, know that many people’s hands have assured that you are getting the best cup possible. We strive for excellence, and I can speak for all of us at FRC. I am always roasting and learning every day. If anyone ever has a question, don't hesitate to come in and ask!
